On November 22, 2008, the Most Reverend Desmond Mpilo Tutu, Nobel Laureate, former Primate of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, and Chairman of South Africa’s post-Apartheid Truth and Reconciliation Commission, will visit the City of Baltimore.
The first cause is the Tutu Institute for Prayer and Pilgrimage. Archbishop Tutu’s daughter, the Reverend Mpho A. Tutu, continues her father’s legacy as director the Tutu Institute for Prayer and Pilgrimage. The Tutu Institute provides opportunities for people to experience “the surprise encounter with the holiness of the ordinary.” The Reverend Mpho Tutu leads spiritual retreats, pilgrimages and quiet days in keeping with the most venerable traditions of the Christian church and driven by the needs of today’s complex world. Healing and Hope for Our Times is an opportunity for Archbishop Tutu to continue his support of the work of the Tutu Institute for Prayer and Pilgrimage.
The second cause is the vision of the Right Reverend Eugene T. Sutton, Episcopal Bishop of Maryland. Bishop Sutton has created The Bishop’s Initiative on Reconciliation, which has three central components: Education for the Poor, Environmental Justice and Racial Reconciliation.
Archbishop Tut will share his wisdom, experience and hope for the future at Old St. Paul’s Church on November 22, 2008.
We are delighted with the overwhelming response to this event from our diocesan family and thank those who offered gifts and support for the Tutu Institute and the Bishop's Initiative on Reconciliation. Please check our website and Calendar of Events for future events.
The Episcopal Church Welcomes YouWe may not have all the answers, but we welcome all your questions. That's because we believe we all have something more to learn from one another - and always more to learn about ourselves and our world. Our ability to reason is a gift from God. The Episcopal Church does not ask you to check your mind at the door. COME AND LEARN more about who we are. COME AND GROW with us.
