Sample Clergy Letters of Agreement

Letters of Agreement are one of the building blocks of the relationship between clergy and congregations. They help to define the roles, tasks, and expectations of each party to the agreement. Used in conjunction with a congregation's mission or vision statements, these letters help to define the scope of a mutual ministry review of the entire congregational leadership, lay and ordained.

Following are four sample Letters of Agreement for different ministry roles: the Rector of a congregation, an Assistant or Associate, a Priest-In-Charge (sometimes called by other Dioceses a “time certain” Rector), and an Interim Rector. Each can be printed out directly from your screen, or you can copy the text and drop it in to your word processing program for editing. Please feel free to use these sample letters as they are presented, or to modify them to meet your situation.

If you need any help putting together your Letter of Agreement, or have any questions about guidelines, please do not hesitate to contact either or the Rev. at the Diocese office.
